Zoloft – Feedbacks

Zoloft is the Pfizer-manufactured antidepressant which belongs to the class called selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs). It is prescribed by most doctors to their patients who are diagnosed with major depression. However, you still need your doctor’s prescription when you take Zoloft because Zoloft and other SSRI antidepressants may still have adverse effects despite being safer.

Before you begin your Zoloft therapy, perhaps you would be worried on how your life would change because of its effects. You read the medication guide that goes along with the bottle yet still it would not be enough for you.The medication pamphlet may be a bit of help but you prefer to hear what other can say. For that we have collected online testimonials from people who have actually used that drug’s efficacy as well as its unintended effects.

Before you start the therapy, make sure that your doctor is already aware if you have any of the following conditions:

  • Any known allergies including food, dyes, preservatives or latex allergies
  • A background of suicidal thoughts and/or attempts
  • Bipolar disorder or a family history of bipolar disorder, otherwise known as manic depression
  • Liver diseases including liver failure and/or cirrhosis
  • Any heart disease
  • Diabetes
  • Seizures or epilepsy

The therapeutic effect of the drug may be experienced after 2-3 weeks thus you need to be patient. At some cases, the physician will give another adjunct antidepressant with faster onset than Zoloft.

For users, the drug works very effectively. Their lives have improved as Zoloft alleviated their major depression which other medications failed.

On the other hand, they have alluded common side effects. They have reported diarrhea or loose stools particularly in the early part of the therapy. Additionally, nausea and vomiting were also cited although they wane over a few weeks.

Some users brought up the weight changes they developed when they were on therapy. This may be attributed to the change in appetite which is also common to those who took the drug.

Most of the patients taking the drug also reported a decrease in libido or sex drive. It may not be a big deal to the older patients, however, there are younger population who are taking the drug and are having an active sex life.

Your physician usually lets you start with a lower dose to reduce adverse events. He/she may increase the dose if needed. Nevertheless, you need to follow what your doctor prescribes and any concerns you have about your medical condition and therapy must be discussed with your doctor.
