What and Why Are Stress Tests Used

A stress test using low dosage radioactive chemicals on the heart is known as a nuclear stress test. The idea of the test is to get a visualization of how blood flows through the heart.

Such tests are conducted by doctors in order to figure out whether or not a patient has sufficient or diminished blood flow. Of course if they detect a reduction in the amount of blood flow, then that will tell them there is a restriction somewhere or possibly within the heart, itself. A patient can be exercising or resting throughout their nuclear test. The name of stress test comes from the fact that exercise stresses the body, including the cardiovascular system. Heart stress test is a good resource.

The treadmill stress test is commonly known as a basic type of cardiac stress test. The name implies the setting and general procedure for this process. A lot of it depends on the individual and sometimes the scope of the treadmill test is to have the patient walk on the treadmill while the heart’s reaction is being watched via an EKG. The EKG can give an explain how the heart is reacting to the trigger of walking on the treadmill. Sometimes, and perhaps typically, the patient is stressed as the treadmill can require the patient to walk very quickly. That scenario obviously places a greater physical stress on the patient’s heart and can be quite effective for revealing trouble areas.

The basic stress test is a process that is not as complex as other kinds of stress tests like the nuclear stress test. During a general test like with a treadmill or standing bicycle test, the individual heart has to be watched. It can be observed with an EKG or ECG monitor. The patient then has to walk at a ordinary speed on the treadmill. Slowly, the pace of the treadmill is raised so that the stress on the heart goes up or the heart is in stress. While this is going on, the doctor is there doing tests and also available in case anything goes wrong. Also, during this time, the patient’s blood pressure and heart rate are watched heavily. Men’s sexual problems many a time suggest a deeper artery clogging issue, one of the reasons why many erectile dysfunction clinic usually direct people to go for the cardiac stress test prior to treating them.

Another very common group of tests falls under the general description of nuclear stress test. This type of test can be used with a number of different kinds of radioactive isotopes. The purpose of a nuclear stress test is to visualize or image healthy heart muscle that is functioning normally. The many different areas of the heart will absorb the isotope and then change into a image that is much clearer. The outcome will be to tell which areas of the heart is not getting the right amount of blood. This will then give clues about blockages.

Diagnosing different heart problems is much easier with the help of the nuclear stress test. If you ever need to have one performed, you should ask your doctor as many questions as possible. The reason for asking questions is simply so you will have greater knowledge about the situation as well as your specific condition.
