Types of Phobias In Detail

There are nearly thirty million American citizens that suffer from numerous forms of phobia “an extreme sort of worry that paralyzes an individual and leaves him out of action the entire time that he is exposed to the source of fear or until such time that he learns to recover and gets a hold of himself. Yes, fear is standard in certain circumstances but if it is multiplied to the point that it becomes daft, fear enters a stage that renders the affected individual almost immobile and that is if it becomes what is commonly known as phobia.

There are more than a hundred Types of Phobias and these are some of the most typical among them beginning with the dread of heights or what is called acrophobia. You will know when you have this sort of phobia when you experience dizzy spells and revulsion when you’re in high places. This intense feeling of the fear of heights is irritated when you’re attacked by vertigo that happens when you peek down from heights even as low as the 3rd floor for some who have very bad acrophobia attacks.

Social phobia pertains to the dread of being surrounded by people in social events. An individual suffering from social phobia always suggests that he is under close inspection from the people around him and he suspects that he is always being considered and guaged. Except for the fear of heights, there is a more definite fear that is connected with flying and it is called aerophobia “the dread of flying. Billy Bob Thornton and Cher are some of the many famous stars who are suffering from aerophobia. People who experience panic and intense agitation when they end up in enclosed places such as elevators and tiny rooms are people that are suffering from claustrophobia or the dread of small and enclosed places.

Remember when you used to be a kid you hated the appearance of lightning and the sound of thunder. Some matured folk have not gotten over that fear and up to this time thicken at the sound of thunder and this sort of fear is known as brontophobia “the dread of thunderstorms. Some folks who have been diagnosed as having brontophobia go into hiding as quickly as thunderstorms come rolling in. Folk who have extreme brontophobia even go into great lengths by monitoring climate conditions and checking when the next thunderstorm is due to arrive.

If you have seen the television series Friar, you will understand more what mysophobia is. Mysophobia is the crazy fear of germs and this fear is sometimes misconstrued as being obsessive compulsive and you would observe folk with mysophobia as constantly washing their hands in the hope that they eradicate all germs that they come in contact with.
