Is Microdermabrasion For Acne The Right Treatment?

Acne is a very scary word to teenagers. Acne scarring can be mentally scarring to adults. Is there a way to help with these ailments?. Acne sufferers use creams, lotions and prescription medicines to alleviate their symptoms. One more treatment option should be considered: microdermabrasion for acne.

Only recently have people been using microdermabrasion for acne scars. The procedure removes dead skin cells. These dead skin cells clog the pores which help to cause acne. Removing dead skin cells can decrease blackheads and acne breakouts.

Microdermabrasion is an easy and non-invasive procedure. It refreshes and revitalizes the skin, reduces pore size, erases stretch marks, fine lines and wrinkles, and eliminates age spots. The technician uses a small hand held device that blows a crystallized substance onto the skin. This substance will gently polish and abrade your skin. The technician then uses a vacuum tube to remove the crystals and the dead skin.

The blackheads and acne scars are stripped away through this combination of mild skin abrasion and suction. A fine layer of skin is removed, pores are unclogged and your face is cleaner and smoother. Since the procedure only removes a thin layer of skin, no skin damage occurs.

If you have severe acne, one microdermabrasion treatment is unlikely to cure your acne. Several treatments may be needed. Keep in mind that this procedure is not usually covered by health insurance so the cost of several treatments may be expensive. The price of one Microdermabrasion treatment can vary from $50. To $200.

There are a few clinical studies found when you do a search. In one small study of 25 patients, 38% had excellent results, 34% had good results, 17% had fair results, and 12% had poor results.

It seems that microdermabrasion is best for mild to moderate forms of acne. If you have a more severe form of acne, it might be best to seek other treatments as microdermabrasion may not help. With severe acne, it may possibly make the acne worse.

Like any medical treatment, microdermabrasion does come with a few side effects. The procedure may cause temporary redness on the face. Blotchiness and peeling may also occur. There have been instances where the skin may become discolored in certain areas.

Microdermabrasion for acne is a treatment that may be worth exploring. It will not be a cure for everyone. Consider the cost, the amount of treatments needed, and the side effects before beginning the process. It has helped some patients with acne, and appears to be one of the weapons in the arsenal in the fight against acne. Consult with your physician before starting any treatment; they will be able to give you the best advice regarding microdermabrasion.
