Eczema is a certain type of skin condition also known as dermatitis that affects all age groups. In a mild form, you’ll notice the skin is itchy and dry, and in more severe forms the skin can become raw, broken and even bleed. There are quite a few different kinds of eczema, the most common are; atopic eczema, contact eczema, seborrhoeic eczema and xerotic eczema.

An Eczema skin is not contagious but may be terrible looking.

Eczema skin rashes can cause much physical and emotional discomfort. An Eczema rash can break out anywhere on your body but most often on the legs, hands, neck or face. Occasionally there can be eczema rash on the lips. In children an eczema rash is common in the creases of the knees, elbows, and wrists. The Eczema often starts out as a simple little itch then turns into a rash. It is extremely important not to scratch the itch, as this will only make the problem worse.
Do not use hot water for showers but instead use lukewarm water. Steer clear of scrubbing the skin either with a towel or using abrasives. If you work where they use a lot of chemicals that could cause you problems.

It’s good to wear cotton clothing and avoid wool while you are figuring things out. Use a mild bath soap like dove for sensitive skin as it has no dyes and perfumes. For bathing use oatmeal rather than commercial ingredients.

Eczema Medication

Eczema medication is used according to the intensity of the disease. An eczema lotion will be prescribed in many cases. These lotions are intended to soothe These lotions can help to maintain the moisture level so the eczema is not as noticeable. The cooling effects of these lotions can also relieve the distress one feels when suffering from this disease. The lotions made for eczema easily spread over a large area to reduce extra irritation.

Eczema is most often treated with glucocorticoid ointments, creams or lotions. Patients may experience side effects, so these medications must be used in very small amounts.

Some doctors prescribe antibiotics for eczema. Dry cracked skin can leave an easy pathway for an infection to start. Having a skin infection can irritate your skin even more and cause even bigger problems.
