This causes a release of glucose and fatty acids into your blood stream. This then moves the blood faster to the brain, and blood flow to the skin is reduced and your immune system gets put on “hold”. In this temporary state your body is now able to respond to the “life-threatening situation”.

As we age it becomes even more difficult for the sympathetic nervous system to slow down and allow the tranquilizing parasympathetic nervous system to calm things down.
