Fosamax Considerations

People suffering from osteoporosis have high risks of experiencing bone fractures, researchers say. The bone becomes weaker with the known conditions involve in osteoporosis. A biphosphonate medication is often recommended for these people. For a biphosphonate medication, one of the best example is the drug called Fosamax. Right now, as issues with this drug surfaced, the number of people filing complaints kept on rising, which shows how popular the drug has become. But if we are to traced its history, it wasn’t really that famous. In fact, Merck just found ways to create a Fosamax demand.

Biphosphonates are the commonly used drug in treating high risk osteoporosis, which works as an antiresorptive or bone anabolic agents. Initial use of themedication for four years has shown positive effects in its goal of fracture prevention and bone strengthening. Over four years of Fosamax use, reports from long-time Fosamax users show that the drug caused unfavorable adverse effects, such as atypical, low-impact femur fracture, among the other Fosamax complications reported.

There were studies done to examine the truth behind the accusations brought forth by Fosamax users who claimed they were affected the biphosphonate drug. The May issue of the New England Journal of Medicine published an article bearing the title “Bisphosphonate Use and Atypical Fractures of the Femoral Shaft” which was a study done to examine the alleged complications of the biphosphonate drug, Fosamax. Shedding light on those side effects was a goal. Many doctors were jolted by the study considering some of them were convinced of the drug’s harmful complications. However, other medical practitioners think that the benefits rendered by the drug is valuable than its adverse effects. The head of this research study, Dr. Per Aspenberg believes that “These population-based nationwide analyses may be reassuring for patients who receive bisphosphonates … Although there was a high prevalence of current bisphosphonate use among patients with atypical fractures, the absolute risk was small.”

Currently, people filing a Fosamax lawsuit is on a constant increase. Complaints regarding the experience of atypical and low-impact femur fracture are mentioned by many people. These people are not going to decrease their number soon as trends suggest.
