ASC Industry Leader to Know – Scott Glaser, MD – ASIPP

Dr. Glaser is a pain management specialist that has been working with patients with chronic pain, where he helps them get back to their normal daily routines, plus increases function and regains wholeness. Dr. Glaser has worked with Ira Goodman, a co-founder of Pain Specialists of Greater Chicago for over a 10 years. He treats syndromes ranging from the basic lower back pain all the way up to severe nerve damage. They use multiple minimally invasive techniques to manage pain, including medication infusion pumps, nerve blocks and small joint injections.

Dr. Glaser graduated from the University of Notre Dame and Indiana University School of Medicine and completed his anesthesia residency and fellowship at Northwestern University in Chicago. He has worked as a pain management specialist in the private practice setting since 1990 and was named to the Becker’s ASC Review list of notable ASC physicians in 2009.

Dr. Glaser has took notice in the struggle against controlled substance abuse. He lobbied for the NASPER bill, which protects physicians and patients from substance abuse through prescription monitoring programs. In 2005, the bill was signed into law and Dr. Glaser has continued to work to implement a prescription monitoring program in Illinois. To help the situation he has also spoken to health providers and physician groups about abusing drugs.

Dr. Glaser was elected as director of the national board of the American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians in 2008 by his fellow specialists. Since, he has become a diplomat of the American Board of Interventional Pain Physicians. Plus, he is acknowledged to be the highest level of credentialing in his field, the first year it was offered.

He is also an instructor for the American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians, a society providing training for interventional pain management specialists and promotes excellence in the field of pain management. Dr. Glaser lectures on continuing medical education at ASIPP meetings and teaches physicians invasive procedures.
